Okay. So the best Kart Racing Combat of the year and this generation has been out in stores worldwide for a week now and you are having a blast. But along this perfect road is the ugly monster that is online connectivity. You may be able to connect initially and then immediately dropped to LAN ModSpot. Reconnecting can be a hassle and you spend minutes and/or hours trying to connect back online to the servers.
When you’re back with the rest of the MNRWorld, you head over to the Online area of the ModSpot, select Join XP Race and you select what type of XP Race you want, single (Race) or series. Whatever it is, you have selected your preference of XP mode and you are greeted with a blank lobby room. You go ok that is fine, i’ll just wait for racers to join. This turns into a short or long waiting game. I would say you are going to be on the long waiting game side as you are gonna have some lucky in finding enough REQUIRED racers to start the match. Now all of this can be fixed with a good patch and we should expect more news regarding issues with the game sometime in the future.
What is really lacking in ModNation Racers is Online game modes and especially one key feature, the ability to invite your friends to XP Races. What is wrong with inviting your friends to XP Races? Does Sony and Santa Monica Studios believe that you will have farming of XP in this? I really doubt that will happen and if it does, not so often and will probably won’t work because of the competitive nature that Kart Combat Racing brings out in gamers.
What will also be nice addition for Online races is the ability to have TEAM Races! Since picking up and playing a handful of races Online and Offline, you get the sense of heavy competition. And what other way to add fuel to that fire is to have the ability to put up a Team of 6 Racers against another 6. Mario Kart has this feature and yes it works, there is one thing that it needs, Moderation. Moderation as in the ability to select Team Captains and those captains select their 5 members for their team. Now whoever is hosting the race you would expect to be one of the team captains, but what if you had the ability to pass that to someone else and still be in charge overall. Like the host is the Admin and the two other captains are Moderators.
